Creation and Evolution

The Debate

Image from the Hubble Telescope

The ongoing debate between creationism and evolutionary theory has increased in recent years as books are published, public debates are held, and schools wrestle with how to teach science. While there are advocates on both sides that are cordial, the debate can become emotionally charged as individuals and institutions locate this subject within a worldview that are passionate about and seek to defend. It is unlikely that this conversation is going away any time soon.

These following articles about creation and evolution are intended to introduce the reader to the primary issues in the conversation. The articles discussing evolution are not intended to thoroughly explain the scientific theory, but to speak of it in the context of the creation and evolution discussion. These articles will refrain from the phrase "creation vs. evolution" out of recognition that some people combine the views and also to avoid the perception that religion and science are rival subjects.

"It is owing to their wonder that men both now begin and at first began to philosophize; they wondered originally at the obvious difficulties, then advanced little by little and stated difficulties about the greater matters, e.g. about the phenomena of the moon and those of the sun and of the stars, and about the genesis of the universe."

~ Aristotle
